What are carrier oils?

Carrier oils are vegetable based oils that are derived from the fats of the vegetable. They are usually made from the seeds or nuts. Many carrier oils are used for making blends for a variety of different uses. They are used in many cosmetics, lotions, essential oil blends, and more. Essential oils evaporate quickly and may also cause skin irritation when applied directly to the skin which makes using a carrier oil beneficial. Many carrier oils have a limited shelf life as well and will go rancid after a certain period of time. Here is a list of some of the most common carrier oils and their traits as well as their usefulness.

Simple reference guide to using essential oils

Here is a list of many essential oils and some common uses. Keep in mind, many essential oils may cause possible skin sensitivity. It is usually a good idea to mix an essential oil with a carrier oil when applying topically to the skin. Many times this also helps in getting the maximum benefits from the oil as well because essential oils will evaporate quicker if not in a carrier oil. Keep out of reach of children and pets. If you are pregnant, nursing, or under a doctor’s care, consult your physician. Avoid contact with eyes, inner ears, and sensitive areas. Many essential oils are also toxic to pets.
